The Display Fields settings in Configuration → Active Features control which informational fields managers see across My Org and My Team views for Salary, Bonus, and Equity.
Display Fields are ideal when you’ve added a new value (often via a Custom Field) and want that value to show up on manager screens without changing any calculations.
When to use Display Fields
Use Display Fields when you want managers to see additional “context” fields such as:
A new Custom Field you created (example:
union_code,segment,budget_bucket)A built-in field from SimplyMerit’s standard dataset that isn’t currently shown on manager screens
Display Fields are:
display-only
order and labels are configurable
do not affect calculations
Prerequisites
1) Create the Custom Field (if needed)
If the field does not exist in the built-in dataset, create it first in:
Configuration → Custom Fields
(See: FAQ: What are custom fields and how do I add them? and Admins Getting Started Part 13 – Custom Fields.)
2) Populate the field via import or editing an employee
Make sure your employee import includes a column header that matches your custom field name exactly (example: perf_rating_2021).
You can also edit custom fields by editing an employee under Configuration → Employee Information. Custom fields appear near the bottom.
Accessing Display Fields
Navigate to:
Configuration → Active Features
The page is organized into four tabs:
General
Merit
Bonus
Equity
You’ll configure Display Fields in the Merit, Bonus, and Equity tabs depending on which manager screens you want to update.

Equity Display Fields (Equity tab)
Equity has two different “display field” concepts, and customers often mix them up. Use the right one depending on what you want to show.
A) Grant-Level Display Fields (columns per grant row)
What it controls
Grant-Level Display Fields control which grant fields appear as columns where:
each row represents a single equity grant
fields are selected by internal label

Common examples include:

My Org (if applicable)
My Team
-
Verify:
the field appears in the correct module (Salary/Bonus/Equity)
order is readable and consistent
the values show for employees/grants where you populated data
If a field appears but values are blank, your import likely didn’t populate it for those employees/grants.
Troubleshooting
“I created the custom field but I can’t find it in Display Fields”
Confirm it exists under Configuration → Custom Fields
-
Confirm you’re editing the correct tab in Active Features:
Salary = Merit tab → Salary Display Fields
Bonus = Bonus tab → Bonus Display Fields
Equity = Equity tab → Grant-Level Display Fields or Equity Display Fields
Confirm the field naming is valid (lowercase + underscores)
“Managers still don’t see it”
Confirm you saved changes in Active Features
Confirm you added the field to the correct module
Confirm the value is populated in import for those employees/grants
Confirm you’re looking at the correct page (My Org vs My Team vs My Team – Bonus vs Equity grant list)
