FAQ: During an upload, what does this error message mean: "You cannot add an ancestor as a descendant"

Validation failed: Parent You cannot add an ancestor as a descendant

This error indicates that the employee specified in the row of your CSV has a recursive relationship in their hierarchy. The employee in that row's Parent EMP ID (manager's ID) refers to someone who either reports to the user or, eventually, reports to the user in the hierarchy, creating a loop. 

Verify that the PARENT_EMP_ID is correct, and that the manager's PARENT_EMP_ID is also correct, all the way up the chain to resolve the hierarchy recursion issue.

Also note that the CEO, or whoever is the highest-ranking user in your hierarchy, should be the only user with a PARENT_EMP_ID set to blank.
