The Column Control settings in Configuration → Active Features control which informational fields managers see across My Org and My Team views for Salary, Bonus, and Equity.
Column Control is useful when you’ve added a new value (often via a Custom Field or a Dynamic Field) and want that value to show up on manager screens without changing any calculations.
When to use Column Control
Use Column Control when you want managers to see additional “context” fields such as:
A new Custom Field you created (example:
union_code,segment,budget_bucket)A new Dynamic Field you created (example:
what_rating,how_rating,promo_eligible)A built-in field from SimplyMerit’s standard dataset that isn’t currently shown on manager screens
Column Control supports:
display-only if showing Custom Fields
may be editable by managers using Dynamic Fields
order and labels are configurable
do not affect calculations
Prerequisites
1) Create the Custom Field or Dynamic Field (if needed)
2) Populate the field via import or editing an employee
Make sure your employee import includes a column header that matches your custom field name exactly (example: perf_rating_2021).
You can also edit custom fields by editing an employee under Configuration → Employee Information. Custom fields appear near the bottom.

Column Control for Manager Screens
The current Active Features page uses a shared Column Control editor for configurable fields across the Merit, My Org, Bonus, and Equity pages. Use it to add available fields, control their order, change the label managers see, and choose whether a field is hidden or locked.
What Column Control manages
- Built-in employee, compensation, organizational, Custom Field, and Dynamic Field values that are available for the selected page.
- The order of columns and fields shown to managers.
- The Displayed Label shown in the manager view; the Internal Label identifies the underlying field.
- Whether a field is Hidden or Locked, when those controls are available for that field.
Custom Fields are display-only. Dynamic Fields may be display-only or editable depending on how they are configured. Column visibility and labels do not change compensation calculations.
How to manage columns
- Go to Configuration → Active Features.
- Open the tab for the page you want to configure: Merit, My Org, Bonus, or Equity.
- In the applicable Page Columns editor, drag fields to change their order.
- Review the Internal Label and edit the Displayed Label if needed.
- Use Hidden to keep a field out of the manager view, or Locked when you want the field protected from manager editing.
- Select + Add Column to add an available field.
- Select + Add Separator to add a visual divider between groups of columns.
- Select Reset to Default to restore the default column configuration.
- Select Save Changes.
Available fields
The available field list depends on the selected page and the data configured for your organization. It may include standard employee and compensation fields, Custom Fields, Dynamic Fields, planning fields, Total Equity, Total Historical Unvested Value, Total Historical Vested Value, Total Comp, and Comments.
Validate changes
After saving, open the applicable manager page and confirm that the columns appear in the intended order, use the expected labels, and show the expected values. If a field is present but blank, confirm that the underlying employee or grant data has been populated.
