This guide explains how compensation recommendations move through the approval process and how managers review, modify, approve, or reject submissions.
How the Approval Process Begins
The approval process begins when a manager (also referred to as the submitting manager) submits merit, bonus, or equity recommendations for their team.
Once submitted, the submitting manager’s one-up manager becomes the approving manager.
Receiving and Accessing Pending Approval Requests
Approving managers will receive an email notification indicating that a team’s recommendations are ready for review.
Pending approvals are also visible directly in SimplyMerit as orange “Pending Task” buttons on the My Org tab.

Opening a Pending Task
Select a Pending Task button to access the submitted recommendations.
The recommendations will open on the My Team tab and display a status of Pending Approval.
Reviewing and Acting on Recommendations
Approving managers have three options when reviewing a pending request:
Modify
Modifying a request allows the approving manager to directly edit the submitted recommendations before saving changes or approving the request.
Approve
Approving the request finalizes the recommendations and changes the status from Pending Approval to Approved.
Reject
Rejecting the request requires an explanation. The rejection message will be included in an email sent back to the submitting manager.

Notification Updates
A manager will receive an email notification any time their team’s recommendations are:
Approved
Modified
Rejected
These notifications keep all parties informed throughout the approval process.
What to Expect Next
Once recommendations are approved, they can be finalized by administrators and included in compensation letters at the end of the cycle.
